Last week, EXCEL4MED was represented at the XXXII International Conference on Polyphenols held on 7-10 July in Turku (Finland), a premier gathering of international scientists focused on the health benefits and applications of polyphenols.
EXCEL4MED at the forefront of polyphenol research
Our partner Ioannis Dimitros, from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, had the opportunity to deliver an oral presentation titled: “Optimisation of Phenolic Compounds’ Extraction from Pomegranate Seeds Using Non-Thermal Technologies: Pulsed Electric Fields and Ultrasound”.
This work, part of his ongoing PhD research, explores sustainable methods for extracting bioactive compounds from pomegranate seeds.
By combining non-thermal technologies with advanced analytical techniques such as UHPLC-QTOF-MS, the research enables high-resolution identification of individual phenolics, paving the way for innovative applications in food and health.
This conference offered a unique chance to exchange ideas with scientists worldwide and engage with a vibrant community passionate about food, health and innovation.
EXCEL4MED continues to support research that enhances the value, sustainability and innovation of Mediterranean fruit supply chains, including pioneering studies on bioactive compounds from pomegranate and other high-value fruits.
