EXCEL4MED

A conversation from Malta on food innovation, sustainability and the value hidden in what we leave behind

What if the by-products of food production could become valuable resources rather than simply being discarded?

In the latest EXCEL4MED podcast, we explore this question through a conversation about the potential of innovative green technologies to recover valuable bioactive compounds from fruit by-products and support more circular and sustainable food systems.

The episode looks at some of the challenges facing agriculture and food production today, from climate change and resource efficiency to the growing need for more sustainable ways of producing food.

It also explores how turning by-products into useful ingredients could create new opportunities for farmers, food businesses, researchers and consumers.

Produced by CastMe Malta, in collaboration with EXCEL4MED project partners Denise Grima Connell and Emma Cutajar, from the Malta Food Agency, Dr Matthew Anthony Xuereb (the University of Malta) and Dorian Galea (Mġarr Farming), the episode offers perspectives from different parts of the Mediterranean food value chain.

The podcast is in Maltese, with English subtitles, making the conversation accessible to a wider audience beyond Malta.
