Strengthening partnerships through EXCEL4MED staff exchange in Athens

EXCEL4MED

As part of EXCEL4MED, our partners from SEVT – Federation of Hellenic Food Industries and The Malta Chamber recently participated in a staff exchange aimed at strengthening collaboration and sharing knowledge across our project.

During the week of 22 September, Eirini Xaxiri and Elli Tsapa (SEVT) hosted Alistair Grima and Julia Aquilina (The Malta Chamber) in Athens (Greece). These exchanges are an excellent opportunity to connect, exchange ideas and see firsthand how our work is progressing across different teams.

Highlights of the week

Exploring collaborative tasks
Our partners discussed the tasks they are jointly involved in under EXCEL4MED, deepening their understanding of shared objectives and project priorities.

Tour of NKUA & National Gallery
The group visited the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where our coordinator, Prof. Vasilis Valdramidis, and university staff guided them through state-of-the-art facilities and laboratories. Later, they also explored the National Gallery, immersing themselves in Greek art and culture.

Innovation in action: AiryBerry presentation
Alistair and Julia attended a presentation of AiryBerry, a product that won 3rd Prize at the ECOTROPHELIA 2023 National Contest, organised by Prof. Valdramidis’ lab team. The presentation highlighted creativity and innovation in food product development.

Researchers Night at NTUA
Our partners joined the “Researchers Night” at the National Technical University of Athens, where Prof. Valdramidis and his team showcased various EU projects, including EXCEL4MED, and shared insights into ongoing research and collaborative efforts.

Cultural experiences
Beyond project activities, our partners explored the Acropolis and enjoyed a wine tasting experience at a local winery. They also shared a memorable dinner in Athens, enjoying delicious food and stunning views of the Acropolis.

Staff exchanges are a cornerstone of EXCEL4MED, fostering stronger partnerships, encouraging knowledge sharing and sparking new ideas. This week was not only productive but also full of engaging discussions, great food and a lot of fun!
