EXCEL4MED proudly joined the “Widera Excellence Hubs: MED and SEE Region” online workshop, hosted by MetaCities Hub and held on 20 February 2024.

This high-level event brought together leading Horizon Europe projects and stakeholders from across the Mediterranean and Southeast Europe to share knowledge, foster collaboration and spark innovation.

Collaborating across borders for regional excellence

During the workshop, EXCEL4MED coordinator, Prof. Vasilis Valdramidis (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens), offered an insightful presentation on the challenges and opportunities within the Mediterranean fruit supply chain.

His talk underscored the project’s dedication to improving food sustainability, valorising agricultural waste and enhancing resilience throughout the region’s high-value fruit sector.

In addition to Prof. Valdramidis’s presentation, our partner Dr. George Katsaros (ELGO-DIMITRA) took part in panel discussions that focused on cross-border collaboration, sustainable innovation and building strong ecosystems for research and business.

EXCEL4MED’s contribution highlighted its role in fostering cooperation among producers, researchers and regional stakeholders.

The workshop welcomed key representatives from other Horizon Europe Excellence Hubs, including VELES, COALition Hubs, Carbonica EU, SeaTecHub-EU, CHAngeing, SolarHub, inno2mare and GlaCerHub.

These projects shared their visions, challenges, and success stories, showcasing the diversity and potential of the Excellence Hubs programme.
