EXCEL4MED inspires future generations at San Anton School during the “Food for Thought” event

EXCEL4MED

EXCEL4MED recently participated in the “Food for Thought: A Human Library Experience” event, hosted in St. Paul’s Bay (Malta) on 24 January 2025, as part of San Anton School’s Community Engagement Programme. This inspiring initiative brought together experts from various sectors of the food industry to engage students in discussions on sustainability, food waste and innovation.

As part of this event, our partner Diana Miceli from Koperattivi Malta introduced Junior Sector students to the concept of food waste conversion into sustainable products.

Through an interactive session, students explored how discarded food can be repurposed to create valuable products, contributing to a more sustainable food system.

Shaping the next generation of conscious consumers

Through this event, young learners were able to connect with industry professionals, gaining firsthand insights into the real-world challenges facing the agri-food sector. Discussions centred around food waste reduction, responsible consumption and sustainable farming, highlighting the need for innovative solutions to tackle these pressing issues.

By engaging students in meaningful conversations, EXCEL4MED helped spark curiosity and critical thinking about how science and innovation can shape a greener future.

The enthusiasm and participation of the students were truly remarkable. Their thoughtful questions and eagerness to learn demonstrated the growing awareness of sustainability among younger generations. Events like these play a crucial role in shaping the next generation of creative problem-solvers and conscious consumers, ensuring a more resilient and responsible food industry for the future.

Through our ongoing activities, we remain committed to fostering knowledge-sharing, inspiring action and driving innovation within Mediterranean food systems.
