On 12 February 2025, EXCEL4MED attended the ECOTROPHELIA workshop, held in the context of the ECOTROPHELIA 2025 Competition, and organised by our partner the Federation of Hellenic Food Industries (SEVT).
Held at the Divani Caravel Hotel in Athens (Greece), the event brought together academia, students, and industry representatives to discuss food innovation and entrepreneurship.
As part of the workshop, SEVT featured a dedicated stand of EXCEL4MED, allowing participants to explore the impact of our project in promoting sustainability and innovation in Mediterranean food supply chains.
Additionally, EXCEL4MED coordinator, Prof. Vasilis Valdramidis (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens), engaged with attendees and highlighted our project’s contributions to sustainable food processing.
ECOTROPHELIA: a hub for food innovation
The ECOTROPHELIA competition is an annual initiative dedicated to the development of eco-innovative food and drink products. It serves as a launching pad for students in food science, encouraging entrepreneurship, sustainability and competitiveness within the food sector.
The competition operates in two stages:
- In the first stage, national organisations across Europe and associated countries host national-level competitions.
- The winning teams from each country then advance to the European competition, where they compete against the top student teams from other nations.
By participating in this workshop, we reaffirmed our commitment to fostering eco-friendly solutions in food production, encouraging collaboration between researchers, students and industry leaders to address key challenges, such as food waste and sustainable supply chains.
