EXCEL4MED at FOODSIM 2026: Contributing to climate-resilient food systems

EXCEL4MED

EXCEL4MED was presented during Session V of the FOODSIM 2026, held on 15 April 2026 at KU Leuven Ghent Campus (Belgium).

Our coordinator, Assoc. Prof. Vasilis Valdramidis (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens), shared the main objectives and ongoing work of EXCEL4MED with an international audience of researchers and industry professionals.

The presentation highlighted how EXCEL4MED tackles key challenges such as food waste and resource efficiency, contributing to supply chains that are better prepared for environmental and market changes.

A key event for food systems innovation

FOODSIM 2026 served as a meeting point for experts from academia and industry, exploring the latest advances in modelling and simulation applied to food systems. Under the theme “Sustainable Food Systems in a Time of Climate Change”, the conference covered a wide range of topics, including:

  • Food safety, quality and processing
  • Risk assessment and spoilage modelling
  • Climate impact and environmental performance
  • Precision agriculture and innovative production systems
  • Life cycle assessment and sustainability

This interdisciplinary environment created valuable opportunities to exchange knowledge, discuss emerging challenges and explore new approaches to improving food systems.

Engaging with experts working on modelling, sustainability and food system transformation helps reinforce EXCEL4MED’s mission to contribute to more resilient and future-ready agri-food systems.

Stay tuned for more updates on our research, activities and events shaping the future of sustainable food systems in the Mediterranean!
