Connecting sustainability and digital innovation: EXCEL4MED attends TALLHEDA Kick-off Meeting

EXCEL4MED

On 29-30 January 2024, Smart Agro Hub participated in the kick-off meeting of TALLHEDA, a Horizon Europe-funded project, presenting EXCEL4MED and exploring new pathways for collaboration in the field of Digital Agriculture (DA).

During the two-day meeting, held to officially launch the TALLHEDA project, Smart Agro Hub introduced EXCEL4MED as an exemplary case of cross-border collaboration and innovation in Mediterranean agri-food systems.

Connecting excellence in agriculture and digital innovation

TALLHEDA aims to bridge the gap in research and innovation capacity between Widening countries—such as Greece and Serbia—and more established research ecosystems in non-Widening countries like Belgium. Through a strong Alliance of Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) and key stakeholders, TALLHEDA will accelerate the digital transformation of agriculture by:

  • Strengthening scientific excellence in DA.
  • Supporting the mobility and training of students, researchers, and staff.
  • Encouraging inter-sectoral and international collaborations.
  • Fostering Quadruple Helix innovation ecosystems.

EXCEL4MED’s focus on sustainable fruit supply chains, food innovation and waste valorisation aligns naturally with TALLHEDA’s vision of enhancing digital capabilities in agri-food research and education.

Smart Agro Hub’s presentation underscored the importance of cross-project dialogue and the potential for synergies between digital tools and sustainable agricultural practices.
