What is a Living Lab?

Living Labs are dynamic, real-world ecosystems designed to foster open innovation through collaboration.

These labs enable the co-creation and testing of new solutions in live environments, where ideas can be refined through iterative feedback.

The EXCEL4MED Living Labs aim to create innovative ecosystems in Malta and Greece, bringing together multiple actors to contribute to the production of value-added food products and the reduction of waste in the supply chains of high-value Mediterranean foods, such as pomegranate and citrus fruits.

About the 2nd Living Lab in Malta

Following the first set of EXCEL4MED Living Labs in Malta, held on 4-5 May 2023, the 2nd Living Lab will bring together a diverse network of stakeholders from the Maltese Food and Beverage sector.

This interactive event offers a unique opportunity to delve into cutting-edge strategies, green technologies and fresh perspectives that are redefining the food industry. Key discussion topics will include:

  • Innovative solutions for sustainable food supply chains.
  • Green and advanced technologies shaping the future of food industry.
  • Strategies for developing new, value-added food products focused on sustainability and resilience.

Using the Triple Layered Business Model Canvas, we will collaboratively analyse the economic, environmental and social dimensions of Malta’s food supply chains, developing strategies to improve sustainability across the sector, thereby helping the ecosystem around all stakeholders in local food supply chains thrive more successfully in the future.
