The EXCEL4MED project could not miss the 13th International Conference on Predictive Modelling in Food, which took place from 1–3 September 2025 in Athens (Greece).

Building bridges in food safety and quality research

During the conference, Eirini Xaxiri, representing our partner SEVT – Federation of Hellenic Food Industries, presented EXCEL4MED to a packed audience.

Her talk focused on the technologies we are testing for extracting bioactive compounds, with a particular focus on food quality assessments carried out through experimental trials.

Xaxiri walked participants through:

  • The overall vision of EXCEL4MED and the challenges it addresses.
  • The use of green food processing technologies to reduce waste and unlock value from side streams.
  • The creation of functional food products such as yogurt and feta cheese enriched with bioactive compounds.

EXCEL4MED

Our coordinator, Professor Vasilis Valdramidis, from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, was also there to represent EXCEL4MED.

His presence further underlined our commitment to being part of the scientific dialogue that drives progress in food innovation.

For EXCEL4MED, this was more than just a chance to present results: it was also an opportunity to connect with fellow researchers and explore new collaborations around predictive modelling and sustainable food technologies.

The International Conference of Predictive Modelling in Food has become a reference point for the field, and this year’s edition once again provided valuable insights into how our food systems can adapt to new challenges.

We would like to warmly thank the organising committee for creating such a dynamic forum and for giving EXCEL4MED the opportunity to showcase how our work contributes to a safer, more sustainable, and more innovative Mediterranean food system!

Stay tuned for more updates on our research, activities and events shaping the future of sustainable food systems in the Mediterranean!
